Have you ever tried 'Makgeolli'?

If you have never heard about it, I guess the easier concept for you to understand is that makgeolli is like a rice wine. Makgeolli is a traditional Korean drink that is recently being focused by many people even in neighboring country, Japan. Recently, lots of young people started drinking them rather than beer or wine, which implies that older generations are not the only people who drink makgeolli.



Before in 1970s, 70 percent of the whole consume of alcohol was makgeolli. However, starting from 1980s, rate of makgeolli consume dropped since people drank more beer and wine than makgeolli. These days, unlike the past, especially right now, more and more people drink makgeolli. According to the research done by statistics Korea proved that the rate had increased 37.8 percent compared to last year's while beer consume had increased only 0.2 percent.


Makgeolli became popular due to many aspects, and one of them is that people put more interests about well-being than ever before. Also, targeting upon younger people, what's called makgeolli bars appeared in significant numbers. In this point of view, many experts say that makgeolli will become more prestigious.
